Biography

Collegiate Experience

I attended the University of Wisconsin - River Falls (the same town I grew up in) for two years before transferring to the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater where I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Management Computer Systems with a minor in Mathematics graduation with honors (Summa Cum Laude). While at UW-Whitewater I was involved with the campus organization aitp (Association of Information Technology Professionals). I served as the Secretary, Vice President and then President of the campus organization. I also competed in track & field and cross country earning All-American honors in cross country in 1995, placing 17th overall.

The Real World

The first 8 years of my post-collegiate life I worked at multiple companies as a software developer (C++, VB6) in the Madison, WI area. About half the time was working as an employee and the other half as a consultant. During most of that time I trained for several marathons. I placed in the top 40 (9th American) at the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon in 2001 with just under 28,700 finishers in my marathon debut.

Small Business

In 2004 I developed a 2-year plan to become self employed. I bought my first FinishLynx photo finish camera and started timing track & field meets. I achieved my self employment goal in the spring of 2006.

In 2018, after 12 years of being self-employed and 15 years of running my own business, someone reached out offering to buy my company. It turned out to be a deal I couldn't refuse. Although I wasn't ready to sell my business, thankfully, I sold before COVID-19 hit.

Version 2.0

After selling Eclipse Timing, I returned to software development as a consultant specializing in back-end development (specifically Web APIs) utilizing C#/.NET Core and Microsoft SQL Server. However, I still have an Entrepreneurial spirit and started working as an arborist and have begun timing a few races again as side businesses. I officially launched my second timing company, Sub4 Timing, in 2025.
